Using Multiple Types Of Glass Block In A Single Project

For this recent project, a homeowner from Center Valley, PA called us with an uncommon, albeit interesting inquiry for a window in their home. They wanted to fill this glass block window with two different sizes of blocks and three different types of blocks: Decora LX, Decora and Icescapes, by Pittsburgh Corning. Normally, customers inquire about glass block windows and projects using only one type of block, so we were excited to sketch this up and even more excited to see the finished product. It is not everyday that a customer wants to use two different types of block in the same project, let alone three different types of block and it is a rarity that different sizes are used together with one another as well, which made it all the more exciting. The sketch, drawn by Kris Joannides of our marketing department, took a few tries to find the perfect mix between the different size blocks, but it was all worth the time because the finished window looks amazing. For anyone walking past, it is definitely an eye-grabber. We were thrilled to see the homeowner love the finished window which was installed by our installation experts Miguel Bustinza and Carlos Colon. Our #1 goal is to make the customer as happy as possible with our product and we have succeeded in that with this beautiful looking window. 20140619_165013 Services and products are available through Eastern Glass Block. We will arrange for drawing review and technical guidance, full sample selection, supply or delivery of glass blocks, professional installation, on-site assistance, and provide technical support after the job is completed, if needed. Commercial Architects Seek a Versatile Glass Product

Architects and designers are looking at ways to improve daylighting in commercial and public space.

Better access to daylight helps lower energy costs, support sustainable design and can play a significant role in LEED certification. The comprehensive variety of glass block systems, patterns, styles, and sizes all work together to produce a total industrial strength solution for any commercial project.

With the different product choices, the architect has the flexibility to mix-and-match to produce an aesthetically pleasing result. Each product choice uses light in a unique way. No other glass product can use light with the energy efficiency and security of the Glass Brick.

Architects in search of a building material that provides ample light transmission, while at the same time stands up to severe conditions created by nature and man, will find glass block to be the solution.

Glass Block is impact and ballistic resistant. Pittsburgh Corning solid 3″ VISTABRIK® glass block resists penetration from high-impact ballistics, including 9mm and .357 magnum bullets. VISTABRIK® glass blocks are UL® tested and component recognized for ballistic levels 1, 2, and 6. In addition, energy conservation is critical in any building project being designed today. Glass block can provide more than double the thermal resistance (R-Value) of single-glaze 1/8″ thick plate glass.

An important feature of glass block, critical to safe building design, is the product’s inherent fire-resistance property. By varying the face thickness of the product and conforming to installation specifications,

The need for safety and security of students in a school building makes the design of an educational institution a unique challenge.

Colorado High School Activities Association Building The physical threats that need to be considered are extreme weather events, such as hurricanes or tornadoes. In addition there are the unforeseen catastrophes such as explosions outside the building or perpetrators with intentions to harm. So, the windows need to be safe and secure meeting hurricane-resistant and blast-resistant requirements.

While providing a secure environment for the students, the internal spaces should be optimal for learning. Natural light must fill the inside spaces occupied by the students. Sounds from the outside, especially in urban settings, should be kept to a minimum. And, building materials that are graffiti resistant need to be used. Energy efficiency must be a priority while also providing Daylighting needs and meeting LEED guidelines.

Glass Block fills all of these requirements. Glass Block can be used where there was a planned solid wall. No other building material has the quality of a solid wall without blocking light from entering inner spaces. Glass bricks provide effective protection against air pressure and flying debris. And, Glass Block is also graffiti resistant.
