Bathroom Showers are Getting Bigger and Brighter

Home Owners are finding that remodeling their bathroom is an excellent choice for renewing the look and feel of their entire house. Within the bathroom, the bathroom shower can create a get-away to escape the everyday grind while adding elegance to the home.

The bathroom shower is becoming bigger. According to the 2015 HOUZZ BATHROOM TRENDS STUDY, “Despite maintaining our bath size, two-thirds of us upgrading our master showers are increasing their size (67%), with the Northeast leading the U.S. (72%).”

Good lighting is key to adding a perception of more space to a bathroom. Glass Block is an excellent material to be used in the bathroom shower because of its use of light. Glass Block opens the space and improves the look of the entire room.  Glass Block is mildew resistant, so it keeps its beauty without the maintenance needed for other alternatives such as pane glass or tile. Light is critical to the luxury and leisure effect that you want from your bathroom. After all, this is your retreat, your place of seclusion and rest.

The shower was one of the 5 Great Projects for Glass Block in Your Home. Bathroom showers represent the second highest use of Glass Block in homes. For a truly outstanding shower design, step out of the ordinary and step into the beautiful Walk-In Shower. A dramatic addition to any bathroom, the Walk-In Shower adds a level of elegance and luxury that today’s discerning homeowner wants.

To eliminate the hassle of a custom design, glass block shower kits provide an easy way to create the shower of your dreams. These kits include glass block, base and door for most applications.

Vistabrik Solid Glass Block Benefits

Vistabrik solid glass block has many benefits that traditional blocks do not possess. A Vistabrick glass block is 3″ of solid glass that is supremely strong but also transparent. Like other glass block products, Vistabriks let in about 80% of light which will brighten up a room while keeping the indoor, artificial lights off.

Some added benefits of using Vistabriks are:

Visibility/Transparency – These solid glass blocks allow about 80% of light transmission as mentioned earlier and also never yellow, cloud or get affected by weather or sunlight.

Weather Resistant – These solid glass blocks can hold their own against Mother Nature’s powers including gale force winds, earthquakes, floods and anything else.

Graffiti Resistant – Vistabrik blocks not only provide extra security, they are also resistant from graffiti and other vandalism. Whether you are in a neighborhood where such things are common or not, these solid glass blocks will leave you not having to worry about them being vandalized.

Noise Resistant – As well as the other glass blocks we have, these solid blocks provide extra noise reduction due to the thickness of these blocks. They will help block out unwanted outside noise better than other products will.

Impact Resistant – Probably the most impressive feature of all is their resistance to impact. This product is also bulletproof. Vistabriks can be shot and have been shot by a .357 magnum and 9mm bullets and still lived. We don’t wish anyone ever needs to experience that, but it provides a lot of protection from break-ins and gunfire if located in a bad area.

These low maintenance,beautiful looking solid glass blocks come in sizes of 4″ x 8″ x 3″, 6″ x 8″ x 3″ and 8″ x 8″ x 3″.

These solid glass blocks also have the highest fire minute rating of any block, which meet fire codes in all public applications. As well as coming in the popular clear/transparent, these blocks also come in color now. See the bottom part of out Vistabrik page for color options and color solid glass block applications. Whether you want the classic clear look or the new colorful look, Vistabrik solid glass blocks are the best mix of security and light transmission, keeping energy and maintenance costs down and peace of mind up.

The Millennial generation is growing as a percentage of our nation’s population The social desires and principles of the Millennial should be taken into consideration in the design of everything from buildings to cars to technology.

The Pew Research center states that “This year, the “Millennial” generation is projected to surpass the outsized Baby Boom generation as the nation’s largest living generation, according to the population projections released by the U.S. Census Bureau last month. Millennials (whom we define as between ages 18 to 34 in 2015) are projected to number 75.3 million, surpassing the projected 74.9 million Boomers (ages 51 to 69).”

Millennials seem to demonstrate a serious interest social issues and sustainability. As a commercial architect undertakes a new project, the fastest growing age group must be taken into consideration. Stanley Tigerman is an example of an architect that recognizes the importance of social and sustainability issues early in the design phase of a project. He answered a question “How do you approach your projects?” with “Two major thrusts of the new millennia worldwide are sustainability and social cause. They both fall under the rubric of ethics; and that’s really what I think architecture is all about, ethics. You could say I approach projects in a way that will address the ethics of the particular location or situation.”

Glass block in commercial space supports sustainable design and LEED® certification.

Glass block, made largely from sand and limestone, is 100 percent recyclable, inert, low maintenance, and highly durable. Yet its dynamic relationship with light gives architects the opportunity to create both aesthetically pleasing and energy efficient spaces. As a proven, natural material, glass block can add beauty and inspiration to a project while playing a significant role in sustainable design. The LEED® (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design and construction of high performance green buildings. While the use of no single construction material can earn LEED® points, glass block can be part of an overall strategy to earn points in several categories:

Daylighting improves worker and student performance, reduces energy consumption and supports sustainable design

Daylight causes flowers to bloom, animals to emerge from hibernation and supports all of life on this planet, yet Americans on average spend 80 to 90 percent of their time out of the sun. We have a natural need for daylight, yet we spend an unnatural amount indoors. I

Indeed, the relationship between daylight and mood, attitude and performance is well documented. According to Electrical Construction & Maintenance Magazine, “The natural light, better air quality and other benefits associated with green building have been credited with improved employee and student health, comfort and productivity. But this is just one of the many reasons more architects and designers are looking at ways to improve daylighting in commercial and public space.
