DIY Bathroom Remodel Using Glass Blocks

Home Owners in Metropolitan areas like New York, Boston and Philadelphia are finding that remodeling their current home is a preferred alternative over selling and buying a new home in this economic climate. The Bathroom is an excellent DIY remodeling project to add new elegance to their home.

Bathroom remodels using dreamy bathtubs and showers are featured in this HGTV post. The use of light in bathrooms is so important. Light is critical to the luxury and leisure effect that you want from your bathroom. After all, this is your retreat, your place of seclusion and rest.EXTERIOR_25

Glass Block can easily enhance the light while at the same time providing privacy and energy efficiency.

While you are soaking in the tub, you may not be thinking about the utility bill. As a matter of fact, you should not be thinking about anything like that. But, while you are not in the room, there is a piece of mind knowing the light filling it is energy-efficient.

Light is so important to the elegance factor. But, not all of us have a great deal of space between us and our neighbors. We want piece-of-mind knowing that we are filling the room with light without losing our privacy.

Quaker Steak and Lube with a side of Glass Blocks

The restaurant chain Quaker Steak and Lube is a fairly popular establishment with locations all over the country and even in Canada. It was created by 2 people in an abandoned gas station who thought it was a good idea to preserve the culture of old gas stations and muscle cars. Originally this restaurant was started as a cook-your-own-steak establishment and the name is a play on words for the motor oil Quaker State. A new location was being opened in Edison, NJ and they were looking for something different, not that their whole restaurant isn’t different already.

We spoke and met with some people overseeing the new Quaker Steak location and they were interested about our a product that is “retro”, will stand out but is also relevant and not “dated”. That’s when we told them we had the perfect product for them; glass blocks. The style they chose was our Decora pattern which is most commonly used in commercial applications. The glass blocks really complement the old-fashioned feel of the restaurant and is still an eye-catcher despite Quaker Steak’s other eye-grabbers.

It is not uncommon for restaurant chains to use glass blocks in their building designs. Many chains have used our glass blocks such as Checkers and Cheeburger Cheeburger, which is also another “old-fashioned” type of restaurant who also thought our glass blocks complement their design well. Other business such as gyms are also big users of glass blocks. We have supplied and installed our glass blocks into many LA Fitness gyms, Equinox in NYC, Lifetime Fitness, and many local independent gyms.

The people at Quaker Steak and Lube told us how happy they were with the finished product; We ended up installing the blocks above the entrance as windows. They were pleased with how our product meshed with the aura of the restaurant and told us some customers had asked what those windows were. It’s cool to see our glass blocks being used in clever ways such as this to show how our product has been prominent for all these years, with more to come.

Open Road BMW – We Like Their Cars, They Like Our Glass Blocks.

We have recently done a few previous articles on our glass blocks being used in commercial applications, we figure, why stop now? This car dealership down in Edison, NJ was undergoing some renovations and were looking for something “different” to make their dealership look one of a kind. Despite the supremely well-known name BMW, this dealership did in fact stand out as they wanted to. Why? Because they gave us a call.

The dealership inquired about having some glass blocks incorporated into their design layout and we were happy to help them figure out what worked best. BMW is a high end car company where looks is a primary factor driving their business; the same goes for our glass blocks. They had decided to use our product on the interior of the business directly behind the reception desk, smack-dab in the middle of the showroom floor. Other than the beautiful cars, it is the most noticeable thing in the place.

The people at Open Road BMW decided to go with IceScapes glass blocks. The location of the blocks required us to use 8×8 blocks with 4×8 and corner blocks. They had requested we use mortar instead of silicone when installing these because they liked the clean, traditional look of the white grid lines the mortar makes. It wasn’t a huge job nor was it difficult at all to complete, but it sure was nice to get to show our products off in a top end car dealership.

We went back to check them out and caught people in the showroom noticing the glass blocks we had installed. Being that there are some pretty nice works of art sitting around them, you could say we were thrilled to see people notice our work of art as well.
